In September 2008, I was in Melbourne walking along the Yarra River on a cold still night. And although I had my camera in hand with my tripod, it didn’t occur to me to take a photo until I saw this in front of me. I wish I had continued along further the River to capture more reflections of Melbourne but to be honest, the cold dissuaded me of that noble idea.

It was laundry night which meant limited time for photography. Sleep becomes a priority quickly when working 12 hour shifts. Although, I was thankful that I wasn’t rostered on for night shift. I saw this guy above the laundry door. I don’t like spiders and tend to belt out a scream upon sight but I was in a mining camp and I had no desire to disturb anyone sleeping. It took some courage to head back out with a camera to take a photo.

After a day of storm warnings and then watching the weather updates, all it took was a rumble of thunder to head out of the house. I drove through heavy rain and negotiated my way to Kings Park. While I was there shooting, another photographer appeared and had the same idea and despite the cold and threat of further rain, we kept shooting until the storm left.
